A Dryer’s Most Interesting Feature May Be the Control
professional dog grooming dryers
Five blower dryers reveal different choices about air control, mounting, maintenance and the outlet that powers the work.

A beautifully dried coat has shape and movement that make the work behind it easy to forget. Professional dog grooming dryers belong to that work, and the most revealing design question may be how the person controls the air rather than how dramatic the power claim sounds. A dryer’s stated power cannot tell you how much air or heat reaches the dog at a particular setting and distance.
We’ll start with how the air is controlled, then explore five dryers and their mounting, heat and electrical details. After that, we’ll explain why unlike power and noise figures cannot identify a winner, compare the models in a table, and consider what still needs testing.
MetroVac Air Force Blaster B-3V, Artero Black 1M S265, Chris Christensen Xtreme Pro, Electric Cleaner Company K-9 II Variable Speed and Double K ChallengAir Airmax Variable Speed are five distinct blower dryers. Their most useful documented differences concern control, installation and electrical requirements. None has undergone a shared drying, noise or animal-response test for this guide.
Where will the dryer sit, how will you adjust the air, and can the room’s electrical supply meet its requirements? Those questions can determine whether a model belongs in the workspace at all.

Let’s start with controlling the air
A dryer’s controls help explain how the person works around the dog. Air control, heat information, operating conditions and the animal’s response belong in the comparison alongside electrical specifications.
What reaches the coat depends on more than the motor. The hose, nozzle, distance from the dog and control setting all affect how the dryer is used.
We examined controls, stated heating construction, exact model, price and market identity. We did not conduct drying-time, noise-exposure or animal-response tests. A commercial “safe” description is therefore not presented as WatersEdge’s own safety conclusion.
Check the electrical version before ordering. A model sold for Europe may have a different plug and voltage from one sold in the U.S. The five dryers below do not all have the same electrical requirements.

MetroVac Air Force Blaster B-3V: variable air without a heating element
Listed price: USD 359.99 for B-3V. MetroVac
What we like about it: We like having a dial between the hand and the airflow. MetroVac gives B-3V variable control while keeping the fixed-speed B-3 clearly separate, a useful choice for a grooming room with different coat tasks.
Highlights about the product
- Control: Variable
- What the maker says about heat: Maker says no heating element
- Electrical version: US record

Artero Black 1M S265
Listed price: U.S. price not verified for this exact model and variant. The linked offer is for a European market; U.S. purchase availability has not been verified. The cited electrical kit is a regional version; U.S. plug and voltage compatibility have not been established.
What we like about it: Black 1M has knob-controlled air and three included nozzles. Artero identifies S265 as the EU-plug version, a necessary detail to check before considering a purchase.
Highlights about the product
- Control: Knob-controlled air
- What the maker says about heat: Catalog says temperature rises with speed
- Electrical version: EU-plug reference
For more details,
Artero’s catalog also identifies a neoprene handle and distinguishes S265, the EU-plug version, from S265UK, the UK version. It says heat rises with motor speed; we have not measured the resulting air temperature. The EU seller price above does not establish a U.S. price or voltage.

Chris Christensen Xtreme Pro: the dryer finds a place in the room
Listed price: USD 489.00 for Black. chrischristensen.com
What we like about it: Wall, ceiling or under-table mounting gives this dryer an unusually thoughtful place in the room. We like a design that considers where the machine lives while the groomer makes space for the dog.
Highlights about the product
- Control: Variable switch
- What the maker says about heat: Exact heating construction unverified
- Electrical version: US, 110–120 V, 15 A

Electric Cleaner Company K-9 II Variable Speed: the outlet is part of the choice
Listed price: USD 635.00 for K-9 II Variable Speed unit. K-9 Dryers
What we like about it: A ten-foot hose and dial-controlled airflow are practical details worth noticing. The K-9 II also states its circuit requirement plainly, helping a groomer plan the workspace before the box arrives.
Highlights about the product
- Control: Variable dial
- What the maker says about heat: Maker says motor warmth; no heating element
- Electrical version: US, 120 V, 17 A; maker requires at least 20 A outlet
For more details,

Double K ChallengAir Airmax Variable Speed: a dial with a power-supply boundary
Listed price: USD 507.99 for AirMax variable-speed 115V unit. SD Pro Shop
What we like about it: Airmax brings two motors and dual filtration together with a variable dial. That adjustable control is the detail we find most interesting when examining how the equipment is arranged for different grooming tasks.
Highlights about the product
- Installation/accessory distinction: Dual filtration; maker says no power inverter with variable control
- Control: Variable dial
- What the maker says about heat: Maker links control to air and temperature; heating construction unverified

Can dryer airflow or decibel figures identify a winner?
Once the designs are familiar, the advertised numbers need some care. You cannot identify a better dryer by comparing figures measured in different ways. Airflow and noise need to be measured under comparable conditions, including the setting, attachments and distance from the machine.
A machine may advertise cubic feet per minute, horsepower, decibels or a percentage reduction in drying time. These describe different quantities. A nozzle can change what reaches the coat; a sound reading at the motor does not necessarily describe exposure beside the dog. This is why the comparison below emphasizes documented controls and purchase requirements rather than building a league table from incompatible numbers.
Before comparing power, check installation. Xtreme Pro offers different mounting positions; K-9 II requires the specified circuit; Double K says not to use the variable-control Airmax with a power inverter system. Also check that MetroVac is the variable B-3V and that Artero’s documented S265 is an EU electrical version.

Five dryers, compared under the same questions
All features below are manufacturer descriptions, not independently measured outcomes. “Unverified” means unresolved in this reporting, not absent from the product.
How to read the comparison: Unless a study or institutional finding is identified, product descriptions come from the named manufacturers’ records. A listed feature does not establish a health, safety or performance benefit. An unresolved entry means we could not verify the information, not that the product lacks it.

The dollar prices are US dollars before shipping or tax. Electrical compatibility and installation remain specific to the purchased unit and working space; the EU entry is not a US-equivalent price or plug specification.

What We Still Want To Know
Measured airflow and sound under common conditions, actual temperature ranges and a matched-coat evaluation would make the next comparison stronger. Replacement filters, hoses, servicing and warranty exclusions also deserve exact-market reporting.
What we learned
The most useful purchase differences are remarkably physical: where the machine goes, which circuit serves it, how its air is controlled and which parts need upkeep. A coat photograph cannot answer those questions, but an exact-model record often can.
There is pleasure in a beautifully finished coat. The workspace also needs to suit the dog, the groomer and the machine’s electrical and installation requirements.
Questions for the Pack
For groomers and owners who maintain these machines: Which documented installation or servicing detail changed your purchase, and what information would have made that choice clearer before the dryer arrived?
